"You mean you've never found a baby before?"

This afternoon, I was outside talking to one of my neighbors when he looked up and noticed a baby (around a year old) walking down the street in his pajamas - by himself! We looked for a minute, thinking the parents must be around the corner, but quickly realized this baby was in fact by himself.

My first thought was "Thank you God! You've answered my prayers! - Finally - a baby!" Then I was snapped back into reality and realized that this baby probably didn't just appear, and most likely wasn't a miraculous gift from God (although in my head I kept thinking - "hey it could happen!")

Anyways, the baby took a turn and walked right into my yard (again making me think my dreams may be coming true). Being rational (and knowing my neighbor was a witness) I went and picked up the baby and made the quick moral decision to try and find his parents.

So, Allen and I started walking up the street. One neighbor came out and said he didn't recognize the baby, so we kept walking. About that time the door of a house flew open and two people came running out - looking for their baby! They were in town visiting family and had been outside. One person thought the baby had gone inside with the other person and went in, not realizing the baby was still outside. We were happy to reunite them, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed that God hadn't just sent me a baby! :) Oh well guess- I'll keep dreaming!

Words..

As a speech therapist, I have studied a lot about communication and the importance of words. I have learned that each word has a specific meaning attached to it .. which usually conjures up a picture or idea to the person who is on the receiving end of the word. Well, last weekend, Allen quickly learned this lesson and realized how changing a single word can completely change the message you are trying to convey!

Before church,  Allen was praying with some of the other deacons. During their prayer time, one of them asked Allen if he had any prayer requests. Allen responded "Yes, if you would, please continue to pray for our issues with infidelity."

The two other people praying with him, kind of stopped and gave him a funny look. All of a sudden he realized something was wrong.. this wasn't the reaction he'd expected. That's when he realized what he'd said and quickly tried to fix his mistake... "oh goodness, that's the wrong word.. I meant infertility!"

So, I have now taken Allen on as one of my speech students.. our first goal: vocabulary!! :)
